Ardmore sits about 16 miles from our shop in Athens, and the houses out here skew older than the rest of our coverage area. Most of the service territory was built between 1973 and 2012 with a median year of 1989, but Ardmore's median build year runs closer to 1982. That seven-year gap matters more than it sounds like. A door and opener installed in 1982 is a different animal from one installed in the late 1990s: steel gauge is thinner, torsion springs are often undersized by today's standard, and a lot of these openers never got upgraded past a chain-drive unit with no battery backup. We see more worn drums, more frayed cable at the bottom bracket, and more galvanized springs that have gone past their wind count without anyone noticing until the day the door won't budge. If your door groans on the way up or the opener strains before it catches the chain, that's usually hardware working past its design life, not a fluke.
